11th / 12th June: Bridgnorth Station celebrate the 150th anniversary of “The Railwayman’s Arms”.
June 25th / 26th, & July 2nd / 3rd: 1940’s weekends all along the railway.
October 9th: The annual Classic Car & Bike day.
Others:
10th / 11th September: The Apedale Valley Light Railway will be holding their annual Gala Weekend with steam trains, visiting locomotives and various other things on display including classic cars and bikes. As far as engines are concerned, the theme is “Made in Staffordshire”. Apedale is in Chesterton on the north side of Newcastle - under – Lyme, just off the A34. See Steve for details.

Wistanstow Show
After sunshine all week, the weekend weather was a little disappointing but at least it was dry. Gus was up at the crack of dawn this morning, in spite of the clocks moving forwards, because he wanted to watch roundy roundy racing on the telly. I stayed in bed to try and catch up on some sleep and was woken up with a nice cup of tea at 9.00am.
Having sold the XBR and the Serow and not having got around to MOTing either the Morini or Herbert the XL185, the only road legal and running bikes at the moment are the Tribsa and Horation the XL185. Gus took the Tribsa and I took Horatio. After filling up with petrol, we headed off through Much Wenlock and along Wenlock Edge towards Church Stretton and then to Wistanstow. It was a little chilly for my kevlar jeans (bargain Triumph ones from the Stafford Show - only £20!!) but not uncomfortably so.
Arriving at the show earlier than I ever have done before, it was clearly very busy and we had to queue for a little while to get in. The entrance fee was a reasonable £3 and there was plenty of parking space, with a field for overflow parking as well as the village hall car park. There was a huge variety of bikes of all ages and genres and it took a while just to cross the parking field. We spotted a new Norton Commando - looks better "in the flesh" than in the pictures, I think - and a new W800 which looks every bit as good as the pictures. A shame it doesn't have a kickstart, like the W650, but still a lovely looking machine.
I won't say much more about the bikes, you can see them in the slideshow, but it was good to see Tim's Royal Enfield on the road at last. He and Myles have put a lot of time and effort into it and it looks and sounds lovely.
There were several of the North Staffs BSAOC there (they do get about a bit!). Colin P. was having some clutch trouble but, as always, Myles could be relied upon to have suitable tools so Colin and Captain Kipper were able to fix the problem. I did spot a rather nice looking cake in Myles' trailer - a whole cake that is, not just a slice. Still, it is probably all gone by now........
After a quick drink in the local pub, we headed for Ironbridge to have Sunday lunch at the Robin Hood Inn. I rather enjoyed following the Tribsa for a while - it's nice to hear what your own bike sounds like to other people. It sounds good btw! I even managed to overtake things on the XL185, that was fun. One of the good things about small bikes is that 60mph feels exciting! The Tribsa seems to have decided not to leak as much oil as it used to (yes, it does still have oil in it!) but could do with me getting around to fitting the new barrels and pistons.

Telford Off-Road and Road Racing Show 12-13 Feb 2010
Alan Wright has emailed me some details of the show:
"The special guests are more than just interesting. The main two amongst many present are Peter Williams and Jeff Smith. Peter the AJS ,Tom Arter, Norton legend was technically so far ahead of his time. His machine collection will be there alongside so many other Road racing machines. Jeff the World moto cross champion in 1964 and 1965,now resident in Wisconsin USA is Charismatic, informative and as witty and sharp as ever. A collection of his championship winning machines is proceeding well! There is a dinner in his honour at which he will regale the audience of 190 people in the Holiday Inn on the Saturday night. A booking form is attached .

Bike Day at The Blacksmith's Arms, Kingsley
There is a Bike Day at Mark Warrender's local pub - The Blacksmith's Arms, Kingsley on Sunday 26 September 2010. There will be a run out (with route maps behind the bar) and hopefully a treasure hunt as well. It will also be at the tail end of a beer festival so there should be a goodly selection of Real Ales available.

The Staffordshire Quest
Most of you will by now be aware that George has organised the Staffordshire Quest with the intention of getting us all off our backsides and riding around the Staffordshire countryside on our BSAs. All the documents you will need are now available for download here. There are two word documents and five maps for download so, after following the link, you will have to click the download button for each item. Here is George's introduction to the Quest:
THE STAFFORDSHIRE QUEST
The Staffordshire Quest has been devised as a summer Rally / Treasure Hunt to encourage BSA owners to get on their machines and explore parts of our county which they may not normally visit.
A map of the county is divided into numbered areas and clues are given to enable targets within the areas to be identified by using a little native wit and cunning to solve the clues and a reasonable map to locate the targets (in this regard it is likely that your Staffordshire County Council Education Dept. Advanced Junior Schools Atlas of The World – British Empire shown in pink- 1946 will prove to be inadequate).
To give a little competitive edge to the Quest it proposed that points are gathered for each target attained; Two points when riding a BSA: One point on any other machine. Proof of reaching the target should be a photograph of the bike at the target or in close proximity to it. As this is intended to be an enjoyable experience and it is not necessary to go to extraordinary extremes to get the bike close to the target to get it in shot, evidence of close proximity (noticeboard, village signpost etc.) would be acceptable.
A pillion or sidecar passenger may participate in the rally on their own behalf and to qualify they should appear on the photograph alongside the machine.
It is proposed that some kind of award would be made to everyone who participates in the Quest, a certificate, Lapel Badge or similar. However since the event must be self funding the type of award would be dependent upon the funds raised. Preliminary costing indicates that a total of around £200 would be necessary to provide an enamel lapel badge for each entrant, ie. 40 entrants at £5.00 each.
The event will be open until 31st October 2010 by which time submissions must be delivered to the organiser. The submissions should include;

- 20-49 targets attained Silver Award
- 50 targets achieved Gold Award
- Highest total points Special Award ( If tied then the overall winner will be by adjudication)
